EECP Machine

Shree Swami Samarth Hospital is proud to host Vidarbha's largest EECP center, offering cutting-edge non-surgical heart disease treatments. The facility is in technical collaboration with Vasomeditech USA and Heal your heart centre, the largest chain of EECP centers globally.

EECP (Enhanced External Counter Pulsation) is a groundbreaking therapy that promotes natural bypass circulation in the heart, helping patients avoid invasive procedures. Our collaboration ensures state-of-the-art technology and unparalleled expertise in treating heart diseases non-surgically.

EECP therapy is recognized worldwide for its effectiveness in improving heart function, reducing angina symptoms, and enhancing overall quality of life. At Shree Swami Samarth Hospital, we are committed to providing compassionate care and innovative solutions to our patients.

Heal your heart centre's extensive experience and Vasomeditech USA's advanced technology make this collaboration a beacon of hope for cardiac patients in the region.

What is EECP?

Enhanced External Counterpulsation (EECP) is a non-invasive therapy designed to treat chronic angina and heart failure. FDA-approved, it helps improve blood flow to the heart by stimulating the formation of new blood vessels (collateral circulation).

This process enhances the heart’s oxygen supply, reduces its workload, and provides a long-term solution for heart patients who are not candidates for invasive surgeries like angioplasty or bypass. EECP has proven effective for people suffering from heart conditions that limit blood flow, reducing symptoms and improving overall heart health..

How Does EECP Work?

EECP is particularly beneficial for patients with chronic stable angina, heart failure, and coronary artery disease who cannot undergo surgery or angioplasty. It promotes the formation of new blood vessels, improving circulation and helping relieve chest pain.

By enhancing the oxygen supply to the heart, EECP reduces the workload on the heart, allowing it to pump more efficiently. Patients often experience fewer angina episodes, reduced dependence on medications, and improved exercise tolerance. Most importantly, EECP is a non-invasive procedure with minimal side effects, offering a safer alternative to traditional surgical treatments.

Who Can Benefit from EECP?

EECP is an effective therapy for patients with chronic stable angina (Class II-IV) who do not respond well to medications. It is especially beneficial for individuals who are not candidates for bypass surgery or angioplasty due to medical risks.

People with heart failure (NYHA Class II-III), microvascular angina, or peripheral artery disease can also benefit from EECP. However, it is not suitable for individuals with severe aortic valve disease, uncontrolled hypertension, or those who have recently had a heart attack. Pregnant women and individuals with a history of deep vein thrombosis should also avoid EECP.

Duration and Effectiveness of EECP Treatment

EECP typically involves 35 one-hour sessions over the course of 7 weeks, with treatments five days a week. Many patients begin to notice improvements in symptoms within 2 to 4 weeks of starting therapy.

Long-term benefits can last anywhere from 3 to 5 years, and some patients may require follow-up treatments. Clinical studies show that around 75-80% of patients experience significant symptom relief, including improved exercise capacity and reduced hospital visits for angina and heart failure. EECP has proven to be a valuable treatment for long-term symptom management, helping patients regain their quality of life.

Mechanisms Behind EECP’s Effectiveness

EECP enhances cardiovascular health through several mechanisms. One of the key processes is angiogenesis, the formation of new blood vessels that improve blood supply to the heart. EECP also boosts endothelial function by increasing nitric oxide levels, which helps relax blood vessels, reduce arterial stiffness, and improve blood flow.

By reducing arterial resistance, EECP also lowers the heart’s workload, allowing it to pump more effectively. Additionally, the therapy enhances venous return, which helps fill the heart with blood, increasing cardiac output and improving overall heart function.

EECP vs Other Treatments

When compared to other heart treatments such as angioplasty or bypass surgery, EECP offers a non-invasive, more affordable alternative. Angioplasty and stenting can offer immediate relief, but they come with the risk of restenosis (re-blockage).

Bypass surgery is highly effective but requires a long recovery period and has a high cost. Medications help manage symptoms but may not be sufficient for long-term relief. EECP, on the other hand, offers a non-invasive solution that improves circulation and heart function without the need for surgery or extensive rehabilitation.
